Now, I’m no fan of the monarchy, but I will admit to feeling a little ‘touched’ on hearing the news that she passed away peacefully this afternoon.
No matter your feelings, it is never nice to hear about someone losing their life, and after all she was still someone’s mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, etc.
Still she has had a remarkably long reign – when I was younger, it was always the case that Queen Victoria was the longest-serving monarch of the United Kingdom, and it seemed unlikely back then that anyone would surpass her.
And for a time, it seemed unlikely that her eldest son Charles would ever become king.
Yet here we are now, on a momentous day in history, with Charles now King – the “Green King” – and it remains to be seen how his reign will pan out.
